What Is Specialized Employment ?

The employment of individuals with disabilities requires Specialized Support Services.  The acronym S.E.E.D. stands for Specialized Employment Education & Development.  We utilize the term “Specialized” to encompass every possible realm of employment. Many organizations focus on providing “mass employment” in basic and traditional work environments such as retail and food service.  “Specialized Employment” seeks to move beyond the limitations of traditional job placement to help individuals discover careers they love and financial opportunities that may exist beyond the realm of traditional employment.

  • Specialized Employment is the process of viewing Employment and Job Placement through both traditional and non-traditional methods.
  • Specialized Employment’s main focus is on traditional Job Placement through Career Counseling, Job Placement Assistance, Job Coaching and Job Accommodations.
  • Specialized Employment can also include the exploration of non-traditional methods of Job Placement such as Virtual Employment, Contract Employment or even Self-Employment.
  • This creative method of employment placement reduces barriers to employment because it empowers program participants to create their own opportunities.
  • This method can also increase the success rate of individuals becoming financially independent.

For the SEED Program, “Specialized Employment” is the practice of first awakening an individual’s truest passions and skills; and then converting those skills into currency.  This conversion may occur through obtaining traditional employment, non-traditional employment (such as a writer, a gamer or video producer) or even Self-Employment.
